Have you rested, dear?
Lay your heavy head
On this down pillow,
And I’ll prepare the bed.
You look so tired, love
Are you sure you’re awake?
You walk around like
A corpse in auburn
Dragging half your weight.
Have you always
Had those tears,
Or did you pick them up in the rain?
They seem to stain your face;
I don’t know how to make them go away.
I wish you’d stay and rest,
I really wish you would.
It’s far to cold in this sad world
For a good soul’s pretty, little hues.
But I’ll take care of you.
I’ll see you through it all
Stay on the road
And everything will turn out
I’ll take care of you
Through it all.
