ABOUT ANNALISE

Hi, I’m Annalise Wellman: a researcher, writer, and advocate passionate about the intersection of agriculture, environmental conservation, and science-driven policy. My work centers on understanding how biological systems, emerging technologies, and public policy can work together to build more sustainable and equitable futures.

I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Plant Breeding at Wageningen University & Research, where I have focused on plant genetics, crop improvement, biotechnology, and agricultural innovation. Throughout my academic and professional experiences, I have worked on projects ranging from CRISPR gene editing and molecular plant biology research to greenhouse phenotyping studies, plant breeding design, and policy research examining the future of new genomic technologies in agriculture.

Beyond formal research, I am deeply interested in biodiversity conservation and environmental systems in practice. My field experiences, from documenting ecological diversity across Peru’s Amazon, Andean, and coastal ecosystems to participating in interdisciplinary environmental expeditions in the Arctic, continue to shape how I think about conservation, climate resilience, and humanity’s relationship with the natural world.

I believe some of the world’s most urgent challenges exist at the intersection of food systems, environmental sustainability, and public policy. Whether through scientific research, conservation work, or advocacy initiatives focused on food security and equitable access to resources, I am driven by a commitment to creating solutions that connect environmental stewardship with social impact.

This space serves as a collection of the projects, research, fieldwork, and ideas that continue to shape that journey.
